High School Spring League
Once again, we plan to field a High School Spring League team for current 8th through 11th graders.  The season consists of a 10 game schedule.  League details are at the SCHL web site.
This year, we have a few important changes.  We will be running weekly practices on Tuesday nights 6:30pm - 7:30pm starting April 30 and running through the end of June. Practices will be run by Icehawks coaches Brian Maciel, Brian Calhoun and Todd Bokina and will be held at the South Kent School.
Our next change is regarding the expected commitment to play in the games.  We understand that the spring involves school sports and other priorities. Based on past history, games are played only on Saturday and Sundays and, typically, in the afternoon or evening. It is important that players signing up to play in the High School Spring league are committed to playing in at least 8 out of the 10 games. If you feel that you will be unable to consistently play in the games, please do not sign up for this team.  It is important for us to have a clear picture of the players that will be consistently playing in the games so that we can place the team in the proper division (1, 2, or 3).
As an alternative, for players unable to play consistently in the games, we encourage you to sign up for the practice-only option.  The costs and registration processes are outlined below.
The final change is the possibility of fielding 2 teams.  If we have strong interest, we would like to leave open the possibility of putting one team in a higher division and an additional team in a lower division. If that happens, the coaches will break up the players into teams based on a combination of age and skill level.
USA Hockey Registration is required. Either 2018/19 or 2019/20 registrations will be accepted.

Expansion of Goaltender Development Program Overview

Northwestern Hockey is proud to announce the expansion of our highly successful goalie development program. Starting with the 2013/14 season, the number of professionally instructed in-season goalie clinics has been increased from 4 to 6.  These clinics will be available to all full-time travel goalies free of charge. Also, in order to attract and retain the best goalie talent in the area, there will be NO TRYOUT FEES for any full-time goalie that wishes to attend our tryouts. Finally, all full-time Travel goaltenders for the Squirt, Peewee and Bantam teams (max 2 goalies per team) will receive a 50% DISCOUNT OFF THE SEASON FEES. We are excited to be able to continue to foster the growth and  development of both our players and goalies, encouraging them to be the best they can be both on and off the ice.

What is GottaLoveCTHockey?

NWCYH Families:

We‘d like to make sure you are aware of the CHC initiative, GottaLoveCTHockey, a new venture that puts a friendly face on youth hockey in CT. Each week two CHC programs are highlighted and players, coaches, parents and fans are interviewed.  Episodes are released weekly on Wednesday, and usually are 5-6 minutes long.

We’d like to encourage all players and parents to check out GottaLoveCTHockey ( Information is available on the website about signing up for the weekly emails, as well as other great information about hockey in CT. GottaLoveCTHockey can also be found on Facebook (gotta love ct hockey) and Twitter (GottaLoveCTHcky).

For a great description of the initiative click here.

Thank you,

NWCYH Board of Directors
